Air Hockey Table Rules

August 17th, 2008 admin

Defined by the USAA, there are several basic rules to observe when playing air hockey. The game is a two person sport that involves an Air Hockey Table, two paddles, and a puck.

  1. The player who wins the coin toss at the start of the game is the one who initiates the game with the first puck.
  2. When the puck goes past the horizontal plane within the goal area, a point is counted through an electronic scoring device. The first player to score seven points by shooting the puck inside the opponent?s goal is the winner.
  3. A foul is committed when a player takes longer than seven seconds to return the pick to the opposite side. Sometimes, this can result in the puck being handed over to the opponent.
  4. A foul and possession swap also occurs if a player touches the puck with anything other than the mallet itself.
  5. The opponent receives a free shot when the puck happens to cross the center line, aiming at the goal but is stopped by the player using any object other than the paddle. This is called goaltending.
  6. The opposite player receives possession of the puck when their opponent crosses the center line completely with their mallet.
  7. The opposing player gets the puck when a player causes the puck to leave the table through an offensive hit. A defensive hit known as ?charging? is often fouled when the ball leaves the table as well.
